About The Position

This position involves providing specialized medical services to outpatients and medical care to inpatients in correctional institutions. The role focuses on preparing individuals for successful reentry into communities by fostering a humane and secure environment and ensuring public safety. The incumbent is charged with maintaining the security of the institution, which is a primary responsibility that precedes all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is Required.
  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must have at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (e.g., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program).
  • Graduate training programs must be approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.
  • GS-13: Applicant must have 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
  • GS-14: Applicant must have 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
  • GS-15: Applicant must have 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
  • Must electronically upload proof of current, active, full and unrestricted license as a Physician.
  • Must electronically upload proof of successful completion of an accredited graduate training internship, fellowship, or residency program.
  • All qualified referred candidates will undergo a credentialing process including validation of examinations, licensure, education, internship and residency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in making clinical decisions relative to patient diagnosis, evaluation and treatment with consultation by senior medical staff if needed (GS-13).
  • Experience in providing clinical care and evaluating patient care through an ongoing quality assurance program that identifies problems and their resolution (GS-13).
  • Experience in providing clinical oversight to advanced practice providers, nurses and other clinical support staff and is responsible for all health care delivered (GS-13).
  • Experience examining and ordering diagnostic testing and providing necessary treatment and/or medications (GS-14).
  • Experience examining, diagnosing, and treating ambulatory patients and initiating transfer of patients requiring hospitalization (GS-14).
  • Experience prescribing medications, treatments, and fully utilizing health services for treatment, rehabilitative, and diagnostic modalities (GS-14).
  • Experience providing inpatient and outpatient medical care in all aspects of health care delivery in accordance with current accepted medical practice and procedures (GS-15).
  • Experience providing physical examinations, physical assessment in correlation with historical findings, records preliminary objective findings (GS-15).
  • Experience providing treatment, emergency medical/surgical services as required, treat severe trauma cases, rehabilitative, diagnostic modalities and prescribing medication (GS-15).

Responsibilities

  • Provides specialized medical services to outpatients.
  • Provides medical care to inpatients in institutions with an inpatient mission.
  • Performs complete physical examinations.
  • Collects comprehensive medical and social history to include a review of all body systems.
  • Performs physical assessment in correlation with historical findings, records preliminary objective findings.
  • Examines and orders appropriate diagnostic testing.
  • Provides necessary treatment and/or medications as required.
  • Makes recommendations on matters of policy, procedures, training, personnel, and equipment as related to specific area of responsibility.
  • Maintains the security of the institution.
