About The Position

Works under the supervision of a physician to provide quality treatment, referrals, and follow-up care in a medical or hospital setting. The role supports radiology practice operations and includes assessing patients, ordering diagnostic tests with physician approval, interpreting findings, developing and carrying out treatment plans, and providing emergency care within the clinician’s training and scope. The Physician Assistant also contributes to clinic policy development and operational improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a Physician Assistant program approved by an accredited medical body such as CAHEA, the American Medical Association, or the Association of Medical College.
• NCCPA certification and current Physician Assistant licensure in South Carolina.
• BLS.
• Knowledge of a wide variety of medical conditions, diseases, and types of injuries.
• Excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Certificate of Added Qualification in Emergency Medicine (NCCPA CAQ in EM).

Responsibilities

• Perform health histories, physical examinations, and individual and group health education.
• Order diagnostic laboratory and radiological tests, including CTs, MRIs, ultrasound, and contrast studies, with physician approval.
• Interpret physical findings and laboratory and x-ray results; make diagnoses and formulate and carry out treatment plans, including prescribing medication in accordance with state licensing laws.
• Refer cases to the immediate supervising physician when conditions are complicated, exceed the Physician Assistant’s limits of care, or are beyond the level of training.
• Provide emergency care to prevent the loss of life, limb, or eyesight, and institute emergency procedures in accordance with level of training.
• Support clinic function by participating in policy development, operational improvement, and implementation of policies and improvements.
