About The Position

Works under the supervision of a physician to provide quality treatment, referrals, and follow-up care in a medical or hospital setting. The Physician Assistant performs health histories and physical exams, provides individual and group health education, orders diagnostic tests with physician approval, interprets findings, diagnoses conditions, and develops and carries out treatment plans within state licensing laws. The role also provides emergency care and supports clinic operations through policy development and operational improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a Physician Assistant program approved by an accredited medical body such as CAHEA, the American Medical Association, or the Association of Medical Colleges.
• No previous experience required.
• NCCPA certification.
• Current Physician Assistant licensure in South Carolina.
• BLS certification.
• Knowledge of a wide variety of medical conditions, diseases, and types of injuries.
• Excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• NCCPA Certificate of Added Qualification in Emergency Medicine (CAQ in EM).

Responsibilities

• Perform health histories, physical exams, and individual and group health education.
• Order diagnostic laboratory and radiological tests, including CTs, MRIs, ultrasound, and contrast studies, with physician approval.
• Interpret physical findings, laboratory and x-ray results; make diagnoses; formulate and carry out treatment plans; and prescribe medication in accordance with state licensing laws.
• Refer cases to the immediate supervising physician when conditions are complicated, exceed the Physician Assistant’s limits of care, or exceed their level of training.
• Provide emergency care to prevent loss of life, limb, or eyesight, and institute emergency procedures in accordance with level of training.
• Support clinic function by participating in policy development, operational improvement, and implementation of policies and improvements.
