About The Position

This one-year fellowship focuses on clinical experiences and a robust didactic curriculum, designed to provide a well-rounded education that fully prepares a Physician Assistant (PA) for a full-time position in Neonatology. The fellowship is aligned with an external PA certificate program for Neonatology, which will be completed online throughout the fellowship year. The APP Fellowship Program assists with tuition coverage for this certificate program. APPs who complete all fellowship requirements, including the PA certificate program, will be considered for a full-time position in the NICU. If offered a full-time position, a two-year post-fellowship commitment is required.

Requirements

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NICU) certification.
If applicable, DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to the first day.

Applicants chosen for interview will be required to send 2-3 letters of recommendation to the department prior to their interview.

Responsibilities

Provide direct care to patients.
Take comprehensive histories and perform physical examinations.
Evaluate and treat patients based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.
Perform therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill, and proficiency.
Initiate referrals to other healthcare providers and consult with attending or collaborating physicians.
Document and bill for direct care provided.
Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
Perform and participate in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
Participate in and support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
Attend education and academic sessions as determined by the APP Fellowship Coordinator or APP Fellowship Director.
Complete presentations, lectures, QI projects, or other academic requirements as set by the MUSC APP Fellowship Director or Department.
Participate in required MUSC APP Fellowship activities.
Maintain licenses, certifications, CMEs, etc., as required by applicable policies and state law.
