Requirements

Requires Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by any of the following accrediting bodies: Committee on Allied Health, Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA); Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); Accreditation Review Commission on the Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
Requires experience in direct patient management, in the surgical subspecialty of cardiothoracic surgery.
Surgical assisting experience required.
Knowledge of acute and chronic disease states, administration and prescription of medications, and delivering physical care following treatment plan.
Current applicable state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or ability to obtain licensure upon date of hire.
Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
Current PALS certification from the American Heart Association.
Must submit information necessary to complete a National Practitioner Data Base search and meet Legacy’s standards for results.

Nice To Haves

Prior operating room experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Physician Assistant’s Supervising Physician or Designated Agent, provides medical and cardiothoracic surgical services.
Ability to make responsible decisions within the scope of practice as a dependent medical practitioner.
Works in concert with physician(s) to ensure the highest quality of care for one’s patients.
Physicians may delegate to Physician Assistant those medical duties that are within the physician’s scope of practice and the PA’s training and that are allowed by law.
Specific practice activities may differ from PA to PA in accordance with their level of training, experience and the preferences of the overseeing surgeon.
Likewise, there may be hospital-specific differences in the PA scope of practice at different locations.
