About The Position

You’ll provide medical and surgical services within an assigned clinic, forging relationships with staff and delivering expert care to patients. Requirements

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by any of the following accrediting bodies: Committee on Allied Health, Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA); Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); Accreditation Review Commission on the Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
  • Requires experience in direct patient management, in the surgical subspecialty of cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Surgical assisting experience required.
  • Knowledge of acute and chronic disease states, administration and prescription of medications, and delivering physical care following treatment plan.
  • Current applicable state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or ability to obtain licensure upon date of hire.
  • Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current PALS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must submit information necessary to complete a National Practitioner Data Base search and meet Legacy’s standards for results.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior operating room experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Physician Assistant’s Supervising Physician or Designated Agent, provides medical and cardiothoracic surgical services.
  • Ability to make responsible decisions within the scope of practice as a dependent medical practitioner.
  • Works in concert with physician(s) to ensure the highest quality of care for one’s patients.
  • Physicians may delegate to Physician Assistant those medical duties that are within the physician’s scope of practice and the PA’s training and that are allowed by law.
  • Specific practice activities may differ from PA to PA in accordance with their level of training, experience and the preferences of the overseeing surgeon.
  • Likewise, there may be hospital-specific differences in the PA scope of practice at different locations.
