About The Position

East Jefferson General Hospital is seeking a full-time Cardiology Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic cardiovascular team. This role provides comprehensive care across both inpatient and outpatient settings, working collaboratively with cardiologists to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. The PA will perform medical evaluations, develop and implement treatment plans, assist with procedures, and contribute to the overall continuum of cardiac care. This position requires clinical expertise, strong communication skills, and flexibility to participate in night and weekend call coverage.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program (MS-PAS)
  • Current Physician Assistant (PA) license – Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
  • NCCPA Certification (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform detailed physical examinations.
  • Evaluate and manage patient complaints, including interpretation of lab results, diagnostic imaging, and cardiac testing.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in accordance with established clinical guidelines and physician direction.
  • Order and perform diagnostic tests and procedures as delegated by supervising physicians.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans based on response to therapy.
  • Provide patient education, counseling, and preventative care guidance.
  • Document findings and communicate effectively with referring providers and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialty services (e.g., PT/OT, subspecialists) based on clinical need.
  • Assist with preoperative evaluations, including history & physicals and patient interviews.
  • Prepare and support completion of surgical/procedural consent documentation.
  • Assist cardiologists in procedures and surgical cases as needed.
  • Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice (e.g., wound care, suturing, post-procedure management).
  • Participate in inpatient consults and ongoing patient management.
  • Contribute to continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Assist nursing and clinic staff with telephone triage and follow-up care coordination.
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary care teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and role model to nursing and support staff.
  • Participate in committees, task forces, and initiatives aimed at improving patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in IRB-approved research activities (data collection, patient interviews, chart reviews).
  • Stay current with cardiology advancements and integrate evidence-based practices into patient care.
  • Contribute to evaluating clinical programs and their impact on patient outcomes.
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, and clinical competencies.
  • Participate in continuing education, in-services, and professional development opportunities.
  • Support a culture of lifelong learning and clinical excellence.
