About The Position

The Physical Therapist (P.T.) Sports Medicine position at Texas Health Southwest – Fitness Center focuses on Orthopedics/Joint replacement (knees, hips, total joints) as well as treating high school and weekend athletes. The department is Magnet designated and highlights an experienced team with high engagement and safety scores. This role involves performing age-appropriate patient assessments, establishing plans of care, and utilizing therapeutic treatment techniques. The therapist will educate patients and families on treatment plans, safety, home programs, and assistive equipment. Documentation will be in accordance with departmental and regulatory guidelines. The role also focuses on Daily Living Skills, Mobility, and Cognition of patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Physical Therapy program upon hire Required Or Master’s degree Physical Therapy program upon hire Required Or Other Doctorate Physical Therapy upon hire Required.
  • PT - Physical Therapist Texas Physical Therapy License Upon Hire Required
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Problem-solving ability; Ability to teach others.
  • Time management skills; Good interpersonal and customer service skills, Basic leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-years prior Physical Therapy experience.
  • Other Board-Certified Clinical Specialist upon hire preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs age-appropriate patient assessment and establishes plan of care.
  • Uses therapeutic treatment techniques appropriate to patient age and desire for treatment.
  • Educates patient and family through instruction, demonstration, and/or appropriate handouts in treatment plan, safety issues, home programs/self-management and assistive equipment.
  • Documents all aspects of assessment, plan of care, and re-certifications in accordance with departmental, TJC, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Works in partnership with peers, other disciplines, and departmental personnel.
  • Focus on Daily Living Skills, Mobility and Cognition of patients.
