About The Position

Flagstar Rehab is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physical Therapist to work at a School for the Deaf in White Plains, New York. The therapist will support students with varied physical, developmental, and mobility needs so they can access their educational environment safely and effectively. The role involves collaborating with educators, families, and related service providers to promote students’ physical development, independence, and participation in school activities.

Requirements

• Current New York State Physical Therapist license.
• Valid BLS certification.
• Knowledge of educationally relevant physical therapy practices and IDEA regulations.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.

• School-based or pediatric experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate students’ physical therapy needs related to educational access and participation.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with student IEP goals.
• Provide direct and consultative physical therapy services in individual and group settings.
• Assess and address gross motor skills, strength, balance, coordination, mobility, posture, and functional movement.
• Recommend adaptive equipment, positioning devices, mobility aids, and environmental modifications as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, school nurses, and other educational professionals.
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary assessments and planning.
• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Train school staff and families on safe mobility, positioning, transfers, and adaptive equipment use.
• Support students’ independence and participation in academic, recreational, and community-based activities.
