About The Position

This is a leave replacement position for a Physical Education Teacher. The role involves teaching knowledge and skills in physical fitness and sports, utilizing curriculum designed by MVCSD. The teacher will instruct students in citizenship and subject matter as specified by state law and MVCSD regulations. Collaboration with other physical education teachers is expected to implement a balanced program. The position requires analyzing, demonstrating, and explaining sports skills, developing lesson plans, and adapting curriculum to student needs. Establishing and maintaining student behavior standards for a productive environment, providing safety instruction, and ensuring equipment and field safety are key responsibilities. The teacher will also inventory and maintain equipment, evaluate student growth, communicate with parents and counselors, and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities. Additional duties include administering testing, modeling non-discriminatory practices, fostering a positive classroom climate, utilizing instructional management systems, monitoring student progress, and fulfilling continuing education requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing curriculum designed by MVCSD and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of MVCSD.
  • Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
  • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course and standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  • Inventories equipment and maintains proper condition and storage of equipment and use of school property.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
  • Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers testing in accordance with District testing practices.
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Utilizes instructional management systems models that increase student learning.
  • Monitors student progress toward mastery of instructional goals and objectives.
  • Fulfills annual continuing education requirements and attends other required training programs.
