Phlebotomist, Full Time Days
About The Position
The Phlebotomist works in the Laboratory at Cameron Hospital and obtains blood and other specimens for analysis. The role includes venipuncture and micro-collection, clerical duties, and collecting DOT and Non-DOT drug-screen samples and breath-alcohol tests. This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE day-shift position scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Cameron Hospital in Angola, Indiana. Cameron Hospital is an independent, not-for-profit community hospital serving Angola and Steuben County. It provides advanced diagnostics, specialty care, and treatment alongside personalized and compassionate care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- ASCP or AMT phlebotomy certificate at hire, or ability to obtain one within one year.
- BLS certification, or ability to obtain it within one month of hire.
- Customer-service skills for internal and external customers.
Nice To Haves
- At least one year of experience in a healthcare field is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Follow applicable safety guidelines.
- Follow departmental policies to verify patient identity before drawing blood and correctly label specimens.
- Prepare assigned specimens and maintain their orderly, timely flow to technical areas.
- Obtain body-fluid samples by venipuncture, arterial or capillary puncture, or from providers.
- Collect DOT and Non-DOT samples as requested.
- Maintain accurate, orderly records, orders, reports, and worksheets.
- Distribute results accurately and promptly to required physicians and locations.
- Enter all information on order requisitions completely and accurately.
- Assist with training new employees in phlebotomy.
