About The Position

The Phlebotomist works in The Iowa Clinic’s Infusion Center and supports patient care by collecting, labeling, handling, and processing blood specimens. The role also includes performing laboratory testing within the scope of training, using laboratory equipment and computer systems, and following clinic procedures and manufacturer guidelines. The Phlebotomist is expected to follow safety and infection-control practices, maintain patient confidentiality, and contribute to positive professional relationships and a professional image of the Clinic.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Previous phlebotomy experience.
• Phlebotomy certification.

Responsibilities

• Consistently meet work schedule demands in the clinic.
• Obtain adequate blood specimens using appropriate collection and handling procedures.
• Label specimens according to clinical laboratory standards and Clinic policies and procedures.
• Prepare specimens for delivery or deliver them to appropriate laboratory areas.
• Within the scope of training, perform laboratory testing using laboratory equipment and following Clinic policies, procedures, and manufacturer guidelines.
• Perform computer functions that support specimen collection and processing.
• Maintain personal safety while carrying out duties and responsibilities.
• Follow universal precautions and infection-control policies and procedures.
• Enhance own knowledge through workshops, in-services, and similar activities.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and use discretion in patient interactions.
• Promote a positive, professional image of The Iowa Clinic internally and externally.
• Promote positive interpersonal relations with all personnel.
