About The Position

The Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy procedures and/or patient point-of-care testing in support of clinical activities within the healthcare system. The role works onsite in the Rex Lab Customer Services unit at UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh, North Carolina. The schedule is 3:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., four 10-hour shifts per week, with a requirement to work every third weekend. The position is full-time, with 40 standard hours per week. The hiring salary range is $18.48 to $25.89 per hour; pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.

Requirements

• One year of phlebotomy experience, or graduation from a phlebotomy program with no previous experience required.
• No education is required if other position qualifications are met.
• No licensure or certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Consults and confers with healthcare providers and patients regarding patient care related to phlebotomy service issues.
• Ensures the quality and accuracy of work.
• Investigates problems with equipment, patient results, specimens, and/or workflow.
• May participate on teams or perform special projects and assignments.
• May teach and train new employees, phlebotomy students, and/or other healthcare providers.
• May review test results for accurate reporting and timely correction of errors, or report results to healthcare providers.
• Performs phlebotomy procedures, quality control, and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory.
• Ensures completion of daily work and assigned tasks, and monitors daily laboratory work-area operations.
