About The Position

Performs a variety of phlebotomy procedures and/or patient point-of-care testing in support of clinical activities in the Healthcare System. The role consults with healthcare providers and patients on phlebotomy service issues, ensures work quality and accuracy, and investigates problems involving equipment, patient results, specimens, or workflow. It performs phlebotomy procedures, quality control, and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory, and helps ensure daily work and assigned tasks are completed while monitoring the laboratory work area. The position may also involve team participation, special projects, training new employees, phlebotomy students, or other healthcare providers, and reviewing test results for accurate reporting and timely correction of errors or reporting results to healthcare providers.

Requirements

• One year of phlebotomy experience, or graduation from a phlebotomy program with no previous experience required.
• No education is required as long as other position qualifications are met.
• No licensure or certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Consults or confers with healthcare providers and patients regarding patient care related to phlebotomy service issues.
• Ensures the quality and accuracy of work.
• Investigates problems with equipment, patient results, specimens, and/or workflow.
• May participate on teams or perform special projects and assignments.
• May teach and train new employees, phlebotomy students, and/or other healthcare providers.
• May review test results to ensure accuracy of reporting and timely correction of errors, or report results to healthcare providers.
• Performs phlebotomy procedures, quality control, and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory.
• Ensures completion of daily work and assigned tasks, and monitors daily operation of the laboratory work area.
