About The Position

The Phlebotomist collects capillary and venipuncture blood specimens from patients of all ages and assists with non-blood collections. The role protects specimen integrity through accurate patient identification, labeling, collection, and transport. It also performs occasional point-of-care testing, such as glucose testing, and provides exceptional customer service. This position is based at Altru Family Medicine Center, 1380 S. Columbia Rd., Grand Forks, ND 58201. The pay range is $16.26–$24.38. English proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking is required for effective communication with patients, families, and team members.

Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Ability to perform the physical activities and meet the physical demands described for the position.

Responsibilities

Identify patients and label specimens according to standard operating procedures.
Apply phlebotomy processes and techniques to obtain quality blood specimens and support correct decisions regarding specimen collection.
Perform, interpret, and report point-of-care testing, such as glucose testing, and quality control.
Process laboratory and patient reports according to standard operating procedures, including printing, recording, distributing, faxing, filing, and retrieving.
Recognize problems, take appropriate action, document problems and corrective actions, and notify the Supervisor promptly according to protocol.
Communicate throughout the shift and manage priority requests courteously and in a timely manner to support department workflow.
Follow up on STAT, ASAP, and Pre-op draws to help meet turnaround times.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet department and organizational needs.
