Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of full-time paid experience as a phlebotomist in an in-patient or out-patient setting.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician by the California State Department of Health Services is required at the time of appointment.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood, breath, and urine specimens from adults and juveniles.
  • Distribute specimens to appropriate laboratories or facilities for testing or storage.
  • Maintain inventory control and ensure supplies are stocked and ready for use.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as word processing, filing, and maintaining departmental records.
  • Follow quality control procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in legal proceedings when necessary.
  • Book evidence and maintain accurate records of lab tests and confidential information.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and OSHA standards for processing and transporting bodily fluids.
  • Maintain a clean, sterile environment and ensure specimens security during the collection process.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
