About The Position

Frederick Health is seeking a part-time phlebotomist registrar to work Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, and every other weekend from 8 am to 12 pm. This role supports the Frederick Health mission, vision, and core values, and is responsible for incorporating them into job performance. The position adheres to the Frederick Health Compliance Program, including regulatory requirements and Standards of Behavior. The primary responsibility is to obtain accurate demographic and insurance information prior to services to minimize financial risks such as third-party denials and delayed collections for services provided at both on- and off-site facilities.

Requirements

  • Possess the ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/department’s policies and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, customers, employees, and Senior Leaders.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to analyze and determine the type of data needed to complete various types of patient registration functions.
  • Must demonstrate ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to comprehend, apply, and follow all policies and procedures.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to an ever-changing work environment.
  • One year of customer service experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of medical terminology desirable.
  • Thirteen-week phlebotomy course or 3-month military course is preferred.
  • Certification from approved phlebotomy program preferred.
  • Current valid driver's license may be required.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • One year of experience in the areas of patient registration and /or patient accounts or in a physician’s office practice or other health care facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collects proper specimens from the patient, such as blood or urine, according to the physician’s order, ensuring specimen integrity.
  • Follows standard operating procedures for positive patient identification, collection, labeling, processing, and handling of appropriate specimens, ensuring patient safety while maintaining customer focus.
  • Enters patient demographics for registration and order entry of tests, resolving ambiguous or unusual test orders by contacting appropriate medical/laboratory personnel.
  • Ensures appropriate insurance eligibility and authorizations are present prior to or at the time of services.
  • Responsible for the Point of Service (POS) collection of patient owed cost-sharing amounts (copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and full cost for non-covered or self-pay services) prior to or at the time of service.
  • Refers patients to Financial Counselors for Financial Assistance or provides an application when applicable.
  • Ensures that the cash drawer is cashed out appropriately daily.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with all customers, using good judgment regarding what to communicate, to whom, and the best way to accomplish it.
  • Speaks in a clear and credible manner, selecting the right tone for the situation and audience.
  • Listens to others and allows them to make their point, always demonstrating excellent customer service.
  • Meets qualifications defined by CLIA under 42CFR493.1423 and responsibilities under 42CFR493.1425 for moderate complexity testing personnel, if responsible for bleeding times.
