About The Position

Support development of an NPS Chesapeake Gateways philanthropy program by creating a strategic plan with actionable strategies, partnerships, and tools to engage private-sector philanthropic support and expand the program’s impact across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The work includes documenting the public and private funding landscape for NPS Chesapeake Gateways and its Network members, collaborating with members to establish a funding baseline, and potentially analyzing nonprofit members’ Form 990 filings. Assess philanthropic feasibility by prioritizing funding opportunities, reviewing foundations, corporate giving programs, individual philanthropy, community foundations, and other potential sources, and evaluating program priorities, partnerships, funding streams, relevant philanthropic models, gaps, and trends. Analyze possible fundraising partnership models, including traditional NPS friends groups and innovative alternatives, and consider the roles of eligible nonprofit partners or the need for new authorized philanthropic partner organizations, using NPS Director’s Order #21: Donations and Philanthropic Partnerships. Develop and deliver a Chesapeake Gateways Philanthropic Strategic Plan and related tools identifying funding priorities, investment opportunities, partnership models, shared network benefits, phased implementation actions, roles, and stewardship processes. Deliverables may include presentations, briefings, recommendations, agreement templates, and a donor recognition plan. The position is primarily sedentary, with occasional visits to park headquarters or partner sites. Overnight travel to the NPS Chesapeake Office in Annapolis or sites around the Chesapeake Bay watershed may be required, with an anticipated three to four trips per year of up to one week. Air travel may be required periodically; transportation mode depends in part on the candidate’s residence. Walking or hiking during site tours and driving to visits are expected.
