About The Position

Capital Health is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to join their team. This role involves preparing IV admixtures, utilizing pharmacy systems like Pyxis 3000, WORx, and HBOC, and processing individual medication orders. The technician will handle controlled substances in accordance with New Jersey and Federal Laws, perform purchasing functions, and support the pharmacy's technical and supportive duties. Key responsibilities include aseptic preparation of various IV solutions, ensuring compliance with USP 797 requirements, and accurate labeling of IV products. The role also involves using PARx to fill Pyxis stations, picking and refilling medications accurately using scan technology, loading new medications into Pyxis, and maintaining expiration date information. Additionally, the technician will fill medication lists, label drawers, deliver medications, and perform monthly nursing station inspections. Responsibilities extend to accepting and processing employee prescriptions, including data entry, filling, and faxing to the Fuld Outpatient Pharmacy. The technician will also access patient profiles, retrieve ADT information, prepare WORx jobs, fill medication orders, process STAT medications, and fill crash carts and anesthesia trays. Compliance with good manufacturing practices, expiration date requirements, and hospital policies for controlled substance delivery are essential. The role includes maintaining required paperwork, reporting irregularities, assisting with ordering medications, and ensuring timely check-in and put-away of stock. Assisting with reviewing product expiration dates, returning medications to stock, and accurately stocking all areas are also part of the duties. The technician will accurately and promptly fill floor stock requisitions and stock for off-site locations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Current pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) or acquire CPhT within 12 months of employment.
  • Current NJ Board of Pharmacy Registration or acquire the registration within 6 months of employment.
  • Basic computer and mathematical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare IV Admixtures according to policy.
  • Utilize Pyxis 3000.
  • Accurately generate fill and interim lists in WORx.
  • Complete tasks associated with the employee prescription program.
  • Effectively use the WORX and HBOC systems.
  • Process and dispense individual medication orders.
  • Handle controlled substances in accordance with New Jersey and Federal Laws.
  • Perform purchasing functions.
  • Perform technical and supportive duties for the pharmacy.
  • Successfully complete the IV sterile technique module including workbook, media fill challenge, and calculations test and maintain competency.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic IV technique, IV hood/glove box and understand USP 797 requirement in IV preparation.
  • Aseptically prepare IVPB, syringes, large volume IV, ADD-Vantage and Add-A-Vial preparations.
  • Ensure compliance with laws/rules/regulations governing the labeling of IV vials, syringes, compounded IV products including concentration, beyond-use-dating, storage requirements and initials.
  • Use the PARx to fill pyxis stations.
  • Accurately pick medications based upon ParX requirements.
  • Accurately refill medications into pyxis stations using scan technology.
  • Load new medications into pyxis.
  • Accurately enter the date of the next medication to expire EACH TIME the medication is refilled.
  • Accurately fill medication lists.
  • Label drawers with correct patient name and room number.
  • Accurately deliver all medications to correct patient bin in a timely manner.
  • Complete monthly nursing station inspections as assigned.
  • Remove all outdated medications.
  • Respond to stock outages immediately.
  • Change pyxis paper, fix drawer jams, retrieve reports as necessary.
  • Accept employee prescriptions including ensuring completion of associated paperwork.
  • Accurately enter prescriptions into the computer system.
  • Accurately fill prescriptions.
  • Fax prescriptions and paperwork to Fuld Outpatient Pharmacy and place original paperwork into the transport container, deliver container to Security Desk timely.
  • Accurately complete the transport log, load checked prescriptions into the transport container.
  • Promptly retrieve transport container from Security, unpack container, place prescriptions in alphabetical containers, refrigerator or narcotic bin as applicable.
  • Dispense correct prescription to employee utilizing QS1 signature system and QuickCharge.
  • Access patient profiles and retrieve ADT information.
  • Prepare WORX jobs as needed i.e., fills, labels (IV/PB/SYR) production lists, profiles, etc.
  • Accurately fill medication orders, matching label to doctor's order.
  • Process STAT medications as a priority.
  • Accurately fill crash cart and anesthesia trays and assign expiration dates.
  • Follow good manufacturing practices when unit dosing liquids and solids.
  • Comply with expiration date requirements.
  • Deliver controlled substances in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Maintain required paperwork.
  • Report any irregularities (discrepancies, etc) to a pharmacist in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the ordering process by using the want book as evidenced by documentation in the want book.
  • Order medications from the wholesaler when applicable.
  • Ensure the order is checked-in and put away in a timely manner, especially those requiring refrigeration.
  • Follow the procedure for borrowing and loaning medications with other institutions or retail pharmacies.
  • Assist in reviewing product expiration dates as evidenced by lack of expired medications in the active stock area.
  • Assist in returning medications to stock and credits patients appropriately as evidenced by observation of a pharmacist.
  • Accurately stock all areas, as evidenced by lack of errors.
  • Accurately and promptly fill floor stock requisitions and stock for off site locations.
