About The Position
The Pharmacy Technician works in the Pharmacy Department at Backus Hospital as part of a collaborative team of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists. The role assists Pharmacists with the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of sterile and non-sterile medications throughout the hospital, including inpatient unit-dose and outpatient dispensing. The technician also performs pharmacy computer tasks, restocks emergency medication supplies, ensures medications are barcoded, and prepackages dosage forms.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection within 30 days of hire.
Nice To Haves
- One year of experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.
- Pharmacy Technician certification is strongly preferred; non-certified technicians are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and distributing medications throughout the hospital, including inpatient unit-dose and outpatient dispensing.
- Perform computer activities to maintain patient profiles, enter charges and credits, and generate unit-dose fill lists.
- Restock crash cart medications, including documentation and follow-through.
- Fill emergency boxes and stat boxes, including documentation, expiration-date checking, and follow-through.
- Ensure medications are packaged with a barcode compatible with the Pharmacy’s existing barcode technology.
- Prepackage tablets, capsules, and other dosage forms for inpatient and outpatient dispensing.
