About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician Specialist supports and optimizes automated pharmacy systems and related operations across the health system. The role focuses heavily on automation and associated activities and partners with pharmacy, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams. It includes optimizing Automated Dispensing Cabinets for central replenishment to improve inventory accuracy, reduce stockouts and expired medications, and streamline pharmacy workflow.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least two years of experience as an inpatient pharmacy technician for inpatient settings, or two years of pharmacy technician experience for other settings.
• PC skills needed to perform assigned job functions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Availability for on-call system support.
• Strong analytical ability to solve complex technical problems.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
• Flexibility to adapt to a changing health care environment.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Valid State of Michigan pharmacy technician licensure.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of experience with automated pharmacy dispensing systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the functional and operational integrity of automated dispensing systems, including end-user profiles, troubleshooting, service follow-up, audits and cycle counts, and upgrades.
• Support automation implementations, including setup and inventory assignments, and coordinate with vendors and IT partners.
• Act as a liaison with Nursing Management to monitor and communicate medication discrepancies and support their resolution.
• Run, monitor, and help interpret automation and controlled-substance reports; communicate trends that support diversion monitoring and medication safety.
• Participate on project teams to improve workflows, efficiency, and service levels.
• Provide core pharmacy technician services as assigned.
