About The Position

This full-time, 3rd shift position with a 7 on/7 off schedule is located at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center - Pharmacy on the Winston Campus. The Pharmacy Technician Specialist I plays a crucial role in patient care by assisting pharmacists and technicians in medication preparation and processing, delivering pharmacy services to patient care areas, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. The role involves collaborating with colleagues, optimizing productivity, mentoring new technicians, and managing inventory to ensure the availability of necessary drug products and supplies. The position requires adherence to hospital standards for a collaborative work environment and administering age-appropriate care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • For technicians in NC with validating technician responsibilities, an associate degree in pharmacy technology required.
  • PTCB/NHA technician certification (CPhT) required.
  • North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration as a pharmacy technician required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must meet and maintain all TCT validation requirements as outlined by NCBOP and Wake Forest Baptist Health.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year previous pharmacy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Aids the pharmacist and fellow technicians in the preparation and processing of medication orders and prescriptions.
  • Delivers pharmacy services within patient care areas.
  • Engages in a team-based approach to enhance quality improvement, aligning with the Pharmacy Department's dedication to the philosophy and principles of Total Quality.
  • Keeps knowledge and skills current and actively contributes to educating others.
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues and directs daily operations to optimize productivity.
  • Assumes the role of a mentor for newly appointed technicians.
  • Shares responsibility with pharmacists and managers for supervising activities within their respective areas.
  • Takes on the responsibility of inventory management to ensure the availability of high-quality, in-date drug products and supplies as needed.
  • Administers age/developmentally appropriate care following Age Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
  • Participates in the planning process by establishing personal objectives to support quality improvement endeavors and contribute to departmental objectives.
  • Adheres to the hospital's general standards to foster a collaborative work environment through effective communication, building interpersonal relationships, and promoting teamwork.
