About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. This role involves maintaining an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. The technician must maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. They will properly operate, troubleshoot, monitor, and clean departmental automation and equipment, ensuring pharmacist product verification and facilitating timely medication distribution to maintain product integrity. The role also includes maintaining accurate records and patient profiles, responding to customer needs by answering phone calls and triaging requests, and implementing time management for safe patient care. Additional duties include assisting with operational support, minor housekeeping, department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating, and conducting regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements. The technician must safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products following departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines. Participation in professional activities to stay current with trends, completing required training and competency assessments, and attending educational in-services are expected. The role may involve assisting in the orientation and training of new personnel and serving as a resource for less experienced staff. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

  • Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards.
  • Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.
  • Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products.
  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • May serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
