Pharmacy Technician Specialist I
About The Position
This is a Full-Time, 40 hours/week position with a 1st shift schedule, Monday - Friday, 8a-430p. A $6,000 sign-on bonus is eligible for qualified candidates. The Pharmacy Technician Specialist I will complete area-specific work according to standard processes, procedures, and policies, serving as an expert with equipment and technology in specialized areas. They will problem-solve technical issues, ensure accurate and timely documentation, and support communication with patients and care teams. The role involves identifying quality improvement opportunities, supporting operational changes, and participating in specialized work teams. Compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards is essential, as is staying current with changes in the specialized field and adopting best practices. The position also requires maintaining updated knowledge and skills, contributing to the education of others, and positively contributing to pharmacy department initiatives. The technician may also accept assignments from other pharmacy roles when workload dictates.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- For technicians in NC with validating technician responsibilities- an associate’s degree in pharmacy technology is required.
- Registration/Licensure with state board of pharmacy per state of employment requirements.
- Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Health Career Association (ExCPT).
- Typically requires 3 years of experience in health care, insurance industry, pharmacy, or medical background.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Basic math skills.
- Organizational skills and analytical ability to prepare reports and reconcile reports correctly.
- Ability to evaluate and measure customer needs – set clear standards to ensure needs are met.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Self-discipline and attention to detail.
- Working PC knowledge includes Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), Internet, and general Call Center Systems.
Nice To Haves
- Successful completion of a formal technician training program preferred.
- One-year previous pharmacy experience preferred.
- Associate degree in a healthcare or business-related field preferred.
- Strong background in medical terminology preferred.
Responsibilities
- Completes area-specific work as outlined by standard processes, procedures and adherent to policies.

- Ensures documents and records are accurate and completed in a timely fashion.

- Provides input to and supports implementation of operational changes, advancements, and site and system standardization.
- Participates in site or system specialized work teams, committees, and councils, as applicable.
- Comply with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Keeps current with changes in the specialized field and collaborates with department leadership to adopt best practices.
- Maintains updated knowledge and skills and contributes to the education of others.
- Contributes positively to execution of pharmacy department initiatives.
- Accepts assignments of tasks from other pharmacy teammate roles when workload dictates.
