The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient, Part Time works in a high-volume pharmacy at Main Campus (H building), supporting a wide range of service lines including general inpatient, oncology, sterile products, operating room, and pediatrics. This role involves rotating through multiple pharmacy areas while performing daily responsibilities such as medication delivery across the hospital, carousel operations, and triaging requests (including phone and MAR message management). The position requires a high level of activity and collaboration across departments, with opportunities for cross-training and potential advancement into specialized areas such as IV, ambulatory, specialty pharmacy, or homecare based on competency and department needs. A caregiver in this position works part-time varying hours from 6:45am to 3:15pm or 2:00pm to 10:30pm (3 weeks of days and one week of 2nd or straight seconds). Further requirements include every third weekend. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding. Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections. Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training. Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks. Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).
  • Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy within 18 months from the date of hire.
