This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician II accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The role involves completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards, and inspecting medication storage areas. Additionally, the technician may complete and document medication admission histories, seek additional duties when work is complete, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. They may also assist in training other pharmacy technicians and extenders. The role requires adherence to all organization policies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, and supporting area leaders. Responsibilities include obtaining and recording patient demographic information, data entry into the pharmacy system, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is necessary, and the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care is essential. Depending on department discretion, immunization certification and performing immunizations under pharmacist supervision may be required.
