This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances, and assists with medication distribution tasks. They also screen phone calls, assist with daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Responsibilities include documentation for controlled substances, nonsterile compounding, and potentially sterile IV admixture following USP standards. The role involves inspecting medication storage areas, completing medication admission histories, and seeking additional duties when work is complete. The technician may participate in quality improvement initiatives, assist in training other technicians, and support area leaders. They are responsible for obtaining and recording patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering, with a focus on developing competence in third-party billing functions. The role requires the ability to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under supervision. Additionally, the technician may operate an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
