Assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to medication preparation and distribution. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The Pharmacy Technician I also screens phone calls, assists with medication distribution, and manages pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. They are responsible for documentation related to controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards, and inspecting medication storage areas. Additionally, they may complete medication admission histories, participate in quality improvement initiatives, assist in training other technicians, and support area leaders. The role includes obtaining and recording patient information, data entry, cashiering, and developing competence in third-party billing functions. They must be able to provide age-appropriate care and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. The position may also involve operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
