This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician II accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The role involves completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, and inspecting medication storage areas. Additionally, the technician may complete medication admission histories, seek additional duties when work is complete, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and assist in training other pharmacy technicians. They are expected to abide by all organizational policies and procedures and comply with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards. The role also supports area leaders, obtains and records patient demographic information, performs data entry, handles insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required, along with the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care. In some cases, they may obtain immunization certification and administer immunizations under pharmacist supervision.
