The CT Technologist performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, operating CT Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This includes scanner, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport, and patient monitoring equipment. The role involves examining requests, verifying orders, identifying patients, preparing them for procedures, and obtaining medical history. The technologist is responsible for the exam from beginning to completion of dictated results, administering IV contrast, evaluating image quality, and recognizing abnormal anatomy. Basic patient care functions are performed, including informing nursing personnel of patient condition changes and initiating life support measures if necessary. The technologist also assists in "code blue" procedures and performs CT scanning, assisting Radiologists/PAs during invasive procedures. They practice proper sterile technique, adhere to bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies, and are authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed. Radiation safety principles are practiced for self, employees, patients, and family members. Malfunctioning equipment is reported, and knowledge and skills are maintained to work safely in an environment with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease. Hospital fire and safety procedures are followed, and required safety modules are completed. Work is performed accurately and timely, even in crisis situations. Shifts are rotated as required, including call back, holidays, and weekends. The Atrium Health attendance policy is adhered to. The radiology computer system is operated for orders and charging, and contrast administration is documented. The assigned work area is maintained in a neat and orderly fashion, kept stocked, and cleaned. Other medical personnel are assisted when performing exams or services in conjunction with a CT scan.
