This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to medication preparation and distribution. The Pharmacy Technician II accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The role involves completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, and inspecting medication storage areas. Additionally, they may complete medication admission histories, assist in training other technicians, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and support area leaders. Responsibilities also include obtaining patient information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering, with a requirement to develop competence in third-party billing functions. The role necessitates providing care appropriate to the age of the patients served and may involve obtaining immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision.
