Assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to medication preparation and distribution. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The Pharmacy Technician I also assists with medication distribution, screens phone calls, and manages daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Responsibilities may include documentation for controlled substances, nonsterile compounding, sterile IV admixture, and inspecting medication storage areas. The position also involves completing and documenting medication admission histories, seeking additional duties when work is complete, and potentially participating in quality improvement initiatives and training other technicians. The role supports area leaders, obtains and records patient demographic information, performs data entry, handles insurance verification, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required, and the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care is essential. Additionally, the role may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under pharmacist supervision, and operating a vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
