This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and handle daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Depending on the facility, responsibilities may include completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding, performing sterile IV admixture, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The role also involves seeking additional duties when regular work is completed and supporting departmental quality improvement initiatives. There may be opportunities to assist in training other pharmacy technicians and extenders. The position requires adherence to all organizational policies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards. Additional duties include obtaining and recording patient demographic information, data entry into the pharmacy system, insurance verification, label generation, cashiering, and developing competence in third-party billing functions. The role may also involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under pharmacist supervision, and operating a vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
