About The Position

Hy-Vee is seeking a customer-service-focused Certified Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in preparing and distributing prescription medications accurately, professionally, and with care. The role includes prescription processing, insurance billing, customer service, and inventory duties while maintaining confidentiality and regulatory compliance. This is a fast-paced retail pharmacy position involving multiple tasks during each shift, such as filling prescriptions, answering telephone calls, and assisting customers. The technician works under pharmacist supervision and may administer vaccines when certified and permitted by law. The role also includes occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals or solvents during compounding, including chemotherapy drugs. The pharmacy handles and prepares hazardous drugs; personnel of reproductive capability should be aware of potential acute and chronic effects of exposure and follow pharmacy safety procedures. Training is provided.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification as a licensed technician through a certified national program.
Maintain continuing education requirements to keep the license active.
Ability to apply logical and scientific thinking to solve problems involving abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to perform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations accurately.
Ability to compose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, and evaluate technical data.
Ability to counsel and advise customers and interact professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and team members.
Ability to maintain discretion and integrity when handling confidential patient information.
Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift, including extended periods at a pharmacy counter or workstation.
Ability to count, pour, package, and label medications and fill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision in accordance with state and federal pharmacy regulations.
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required for employment.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
Handle customer inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise and judgment.
Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests at the supervising pharmacist's discretion.
Contact doctors' offices to take or request refill prescriptions as needed.
Gather and maintain accurate patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
Prepare and affix labels to prescription containers and prepare prescriptions for mailing.
Prepare and submit insurance claims and assist with third-party insurance billing and troubleshooting.
File prescriptions after dispensing and report medication errors to appropriate personnel.
Order, check in, and stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices as necessary.
Perform cash transactions accurately.
Administer vaccines as allowed by law and with required certification where applicable.
Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area.
Protect customers' private medical information in accordance with HIPAA.
Adhere to statutes and regulations pertaining to pharmacy technicians.
Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other store areas as needed and take on special projects as assigned.
Maintain personal hygiene and dress standards and follow Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.
Report to work when scheduled and on time.
