Saskatoon Co-op is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to join their team at Pharmacy #323 in Saskatoon, SK. This role reports to the Pharmacy Manager and involves a wide range of responsibilities focused on patient care, prescription processing, and pharmacy operations. The ideal candidate will be service-oriented, organized, and possess strong attention to detail. Responsibilities

  • Take medication history and gather patient information for pharmacist review, exercising professional judgment to identify when pharmacist expertise is needed.
  • Prepare and process prescriptions (including compounds) deemed appropriate by the supervising pharmacist, and perform final checks on filled prescriptions before release, recognizing and responding to unusual patient drug distribution patterns.
  • Transfer and receive prescriptions from prescribers and other pharmacists/pharmacy technicians, and receive verbal prescriptions from prescribers.
  • Assist patients in making informed decisions regarding the selection and use of drug administration devices, monitoring devices, and health aids.
  • Assist patients and healthcare team members in understanding the scope, limitations, and exceptions of third-party insurance coverage, including coordination of benefits.
  • Supervise and perform final checks on the work of pharmacy assistants and/or other pharmacy technicians, accepting responsibility for their work.
  • Assist patients with the pickup, delivery, and sale of their prescriptions and OTC/HBC purchases.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of patient information and request/release such information only where appropriate and legally allowed.
  • Adhere to government regulations and Saskatoon Co-op's policies regarding pharmacy inventory control, safekeeping, and sales, including proper ordering, return, and disposal of pharmacy inventory.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including documentation of medication errors and near misses.
  • Assist in the promotion and administration of professional service programs offered by the pharmacy, including triage, communication of available services, and appointment booking.
  • Be familiar with all products and services offered in Saskatoon Co-op Pharmacy, including new offerings, and be aware of products and services typically offered in local community pharmacies.
  • Assist with checking and adjusting customer complaints within Saskatoon Co-op's established policies, deferring to the immediate supervisor as required.
  • Be aware of and informed about Saskatoon Co-op contracts, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Assist the immediate superior, if required, in preparing reports, compiling statistics, and processing invoices.
  • Be familiar with and assist with current merchandising and signing policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and friendly pharmacy care to customers to promote good patient relations.
  • When appropriate, promote the sale of Co-op label merchandise.
  • Be responsible for general housekeeping duties and the general appearance of the entire department when not occupied with prescription-related activities.
  • Maintain a constant alert against unauthorized removal of merchandise and assist in the safekeeping of all cash handled in the department.
  • Assist the Pharmacist, when required, in the preparation and administration of injections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
