About The Position

Reporting to the Food Store Manager, the Assistant Food Store Manager plays an integral role in working closely with all Department Managers (including fresh) to support them in the execution of their operational plans and deliverables by providing day-to-day assistance, coaching, guidance and follow-up so they are enabled to deliver operational excellence and results. This role supports the planning, monitoring, and managing of assigned internal projects from initiation to completion across the entire store (Centre Store and Fresh departments) and is required to apply operational knowledge in key performance areas. In the absence of the Food Store Manager, the Assistant Food Store Manager provides leadership coverage across the location, ensuring that the day-to-day store operations run smoothly in alignment with the Food Division’s goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent education
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience within the Retail Food Industry

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily store walkarounds to review and discuss each department’s daily operational plans.
  • Follow up and work with Department Manager(s) to address any operational challenges or gaps, ensuring the department managers are provided with day-to-day support for the execution of their plans to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Lead their team within the parameters of the CBA and Saskatoon Co-op policies and procedures.
  • Practice full cycle talent management – talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management including communicating clear performance expectations, coaching and mentoring.
  • Collaborate with Supervisors to seek feedback for the creation of performance reviews, development planning, and driving employee engagement and implementing strategies to promote a positive employee work experience.
  • Review financial reporting for the Centre Store Department and provide variance explanations within the timelines provided and implement adjustments to obtain profitability.
  • Create centre store budget including HBC, lottery and post office where applicable.
  • Assist Food Store Manager with overall site level audits and implement audits of the Centre Store Department, including regular inventory counts, schedules and recording of markdowns.
  • Create, support, and provide direction for the promotional activities at store level, including the design and mentoring of others to build the displays, arrangements for in-store demonstrations, use of POP materials.
  • Support brand initiatives and programs in alignment with the overall marketing strategy of Saskatoon Co-op.
  • Ensure compliance of Saskatoon Co-op’s Safety Policies, Programs and government regulations (OH&S Committee meetings, fire drills, and operator’s certification) in Centre Store operations.
  • Report incidents, workplace accidents and near misses as required.
  • Aid in investigations in asset protection or other related matters.
  • Implement actions to prevent future safety events.
