About The Position

Practice in a variety of direct patient care settings including inpatient medical/surgical, cardiology, critical care, long term care, administration, oncology, women and children’s health, and other patient care areas as practice dictates. See Residency Program Description for specific required activities and learning experiences. All assigned activities must be achieved to meet the ASHP Pharmacy Residency Standard in order to successfully complete the program and receive a graduating certificate.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed, or will be license eligible by the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy to practice pharmacy in the state of Georgia after degree completion.
  • Bachelors Degree.
  • Current enrollment in Doctorate of Pharmacy program as a postgraduate professional degree.
  • Advanced clinical pharmacy skills—ability to demonstrate competence, confidence, and compassion in providing direct patient care and working with others.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
  • Must have working knowledge of pharmacy law
  • Ability to be self-directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure (taking personal responsibility for care)
  • Ability to acquire skills necessary to operate departmental computer applications and institutional medication use technology

Responsibilities

  • Under direction of RPD (and residency preceptors), assumes responsibility for pharmacy services for selected patients.
  • Provides education in pharmaceutical care to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and patients.
  • Provides concise, applicable, and timely responses to requests for drug information from healthcare providers.
  • Participates in the ongoing development of drug therapy policies and maintenance of the health system’s formulary.
  • Assists in Pharmacy and Therapeutics’ Committees activities, departmental and institutional projects, leadership functions, and academic pursuits (e.g., precepting students, etc…)
  • Performs duties and responsibilities of a patient care pharmacist and clinical specialist as workload necessitates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the RPD and pharmacy leadership.
