About The Position

The Information Systems Specialist is a power user on key applications. The team member will be responsible for training other users and troubleshooting problems. This individual will also serve as a liaison to software vendors and/or the Information Services department. The role involves determining information technology needs for a specific department, training personnel in the use of assigned software, and making recommendations for software solutions. The specialist will evaluate the effectiveness of software solutions, ensure software remains updated and operating through ongoing maintenance, and maintain data integrity within the system. This role also includes liaising with vendors and/or the information services department to resolve software issues, installing and maintaining temperature monitoring software, and maintaining/repairing various pharmacy systems and printers. Collaboration in managing drug shortages, providing on-call support, reconfiguring medication cabinetry, supporting user account information, managing inventory levels on automated pharmacy dispensing machinery, monitoring ADT override activities, and ensuring proper report generation are also key responsibilities. The individual will communicate identified pharmacy information system concerns/problems to the Pharmacy Director.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical, computer, and communication skills.

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 3 years of experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Determines information technology needs for a specific department.
  • Trains personnel in the use of assigned software.
  • Makes recommendations for software solutions to department’s needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of a software solution by measuring the quality and results through testing against department requirements.
  • Ensures software remains updated and operating through ongoing maintenance.
  • Ensures the integrity of data within the system by minimizing opportunities for corruption.
  • Liaises with vendors and/or information services department to resolve software issues.
  • Installs and maintains temperature monitoring software.
  • Maintains and repairs the medication repacking system, code tray/kit replenishment system and liquid dose packing system as well as pharmacy printers.
  • Assists in the installation, relocation and preparation of new pharmacy equipment.
  • Collaborates in managing drug shortages.
  • Provides on-call support for emergencies and downtime issues.
  • Reconfigures existing medication cabinetry to reflect current medication trends.
  • Support user account information including network access, access to ADM systems, etc.
  • Works to develop standard and cost-effective inventory levels on all automated pharmacy dispensing machinery.
  • Monitors ADT override activities and medications.
  • Ensure proper report generation from pharmacy information system on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, and ensures that said reports are properly filed, delivered or archived in accordance with all State and Federal Laws.
  • Communicates all appropriate identified pharmacy information system concerns/problems to Pharmacy Director.
