About The Position

This position involves assisting pharmacists with various tasks related to medication dispensing and pharmacy operations. The intern will be responsible for stocking, counting, and preparing medications, maintaining inventory, handling customer transactions, and answering phone calls while understanding the scope of their authority and adhering to pharmacy laws and regulations.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent.
Intern License with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Knowledge and ability to perform basic mathematics.
Familiarization with pharmacy stock and distribution procedures.
Knowledge of drug nomenclature.
Knowledge of dosage calculations.
Knowledge of commonly used drugs names.
Knowledge of uses of medications.
Ability to read a prescription.

Compliance with all requirements of the practice of Pharmacy according to Chapter 27 of the State Board of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

Carry, stock, count, assemble, and distribute containers of medicine around the pharmacy.
Count and fill different forms of medicine in preparation for pharmacist verification.
Type, print, or generate labels from the computer.
Maintain records related to the practice of pharmacy.
Understand and adhere to the limits of pharmacy intern authority, including not performing acts requiring independent professional judgment and only working when a licensed pharmacist is present.
Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing orders, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugs.
Correctly measure drug doses using syringes or graduates.
Accurately account for money transactions when opening, running, and closing the register.
Answer phone calls, deferring clinical questions to a pharmacist, and handling prescription transcription or transfers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
