About The Position

Northern Nevada Medical Center is a 124-bed acute care hospital seeking a Pharmacy Director. This individual will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the Pharmacy Department. They will ensure compliance with patient care quality standards for all age groups, from newborns to the elderly. The role involves directing and controlling the purchase and inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies, as well as participating in departmental planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, education, and human resources activities. The Pharmacy Director will collaborate with hospital administration on departmental operations and regulatory compliance, monitor department activities for efficiency, and work closely with nursing, medical staff, and other clinical departments to address pharmacy-related issues. A key aspect of the role is monitoring pharmaceutical care to optimize patient safety and minimize errors, and coordinating the development and implementation of departmental policies and standards in accordance with hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and federal and state regulations.

Requirements

  • Current Pharmacist certification or licensure in the State of Nevada.
  • At least five (5) years experience in a management role
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications

Responsibilities

  • Planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the Pharmacy Department.
  • Ensuring compliance with patient care quality standards for all age groups.
  • Directing and controlling the purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals and related substances and supplies.
  • Participating in the department’s planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, education and human resources activities.
  • Collaborating with hospital administration on planning, organizing and directing Pharmacy Department operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Monitoring activities of the Pharmacy Department and taking appropriate action as necessary to ensure efficient and effective operation.
  • Collaborating closely with the nursing and medical staffs and other clinical department managers in addressing Pharmacy Department issues as they are related to the services provided to all patients ranging from the newborn to the elderly.
  • Monitoring the provision of patient pharmaceutical care to optimize patient safety and reduce the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Coordinating the development/revision, implementation and communication of policies, guidelines and standards for the Pharmacy Department in accordance with the hospital’s policies, Joint Commision medication management standards, federal and state regulations.
