About The Position

Care for our community, and your career. This role assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing, and/or distribution of medications. The assistant will obtain and maintain appropriate knowledge of department Policies and Procedures, as well as Joint Commission medication management standards. Essential functions include inventory control such as rotating stock, replenishing stock, performing medication audits, and monitoring for outdates. Activities are performed in accordance with federal, state, and local laws/regulations and hospital policies. The role also involves delivering outstanding customer service, operating computer systems and technology like Meditech and Omnicell, and potentially troubleshooting equipment issues. Accurate entry of medication charges into the system is required. Essential functions for maintaining IV room certification, such as cleaning, are also part of the role. Additional duties may be assigned based on experience and education, such as medication historian or IV room duties.

Requirements

  • Must communicate effectively and show eagerness to learn
  • NYS registration and sterile compounding certificate required for IV room compounding.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of previous pharmacy work experience is desired.
  • Retail experience preferred for medication historian role.
  • Additional certifications might be required specific to job duties assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing and/or distribution of medications.

  • Performs essential functions related to inventory control such as rotating stock, replenishing stock, performing medication audits and monitoring for outdates.
  • Performs activities as directed in accordance with federal, state and local laws/regulations and hospital policies.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Operates computer systems and utilizes technology such as Meditech and Omnicell. May need to troubleshoot issues with equipment and discrepancies.
  • Responsible for entering medication charges in system accurately.
  • Performs essential functions related to maintaining IV room certification such as cleaning of IV room and surrounding areas.
  • Medication historian duties, or IV room duties may be assigned.
