Work Shift Day (United States of America) Hours: PRN Days - Every 3rd weekend scheduled job requirement. Certified Required: PHARMINT - Pharmacist - Intern Job Summary: Responsible for the pharmaceutical care of the inpatients and outpatients of the WellStar Health System. Care may be provided from either a central or satellite pharmacy. Duties include both distributive and clinical activities. All duties to be performed under supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Requirements

• High School Diploma General or GED General or Accredited Program Pharmacology-Preferred
• PHARMINT - Pharmacist - Intern
• Must have a Georgia intern license and in good standing with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy Upon Hire
• Registered or graduate of accredited Pharmacy school
• Oriented and knowledgeable in the functions of a pharmacy
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
• Strong customer service attitude.
• Moderate computer skills (Microsoft Office).

Responsibilities

• First and PRN- correct form from shelves. Fill, label, and initial medication bag and leave for a pharmacist to check, then deliver or tube to the appropriate units.
• Cart Fill- Must fill all patient specific medications in accordance with the procedures of the department.
• Transportation- cart fill, first dose, and missing doses will be delivered to appropriate units in the hospital, while practicing appropriate procedure to ensure confidentiality for all patients. (Example: covering patients labels, medication bag or any other item that contains patient information.)
• Missing Doses- upon request, must properly generate label, fill and have checked by a pharmacist, then dispense to appropriate floor and/or unit.
• Product Preparation- must properly prepare/compound ointments, creams and oral solutions, and prepare products in normal routine of retail dispensing
• Aseptic technique- must review and understand Aseptic technique.
• Room cleaning and restocking- IV hood must be cleaned every shift and/or as needed to maintain sterile work surface. IV room must be restocked every shift as needed. IV room must be clean at all times and cleared of any cardboard boxes, etc. Always ensure that requirements and procedures of are met.
• User- must be capable of accurately adding new users to the system.
• Product- must properly load cubies with correct medications. After checked by a pharmacist, cubie should be loaded. Monitor par levels, increase or decrease as needed.
• Reports- must be able to generate needed reports to fill, track, and identify/report all discrepancies.
• Minor Maintenance- must trouble shoot minor problems.
• Restock- must accurately fill medication, fluids and stock outs as needed.
• Recall- must assist the pharmacist and supply specialist in retrieving recall medications
• Rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy.
• Prepackaging and bar-coded medications- must accurately label/pack tablets, capsules, liquids, mouthwash and oral syringes. (e.g. medication name, strength, NDC #, lot and expiration date.)
• Properly provide customer service with phone calls and front window/dispensing counter.
• Make rounds and retrieve discontinued medication or discharged patients medication or will call.
• Process all charges: late charges, supplemental, OR charges, nuclear and exception report if needed
• Replenish inventory, stock shelves as needed.
• Proper use of the want/requisition book for needed medications and supplies.
• Train and mentor new technicians.
• Capable of generating orders, checking in orders, completing invoices and processing returns using the wholesaler computer system.
• Must be familiar with the process of the Distribution of Controlled Substance.
• Code Cart-Must replace all emergency medication when cart is used and return to pharmacy. A Pharmacist must check cart before being sealed. Code Cart is returned to the unit or if spare cart is kept in the pharmacy, return to storage area. Code Carts will be inspected quarterly for expired medications.
• Pharmacy and Unit Inspections: Must perform monthly unit and pharmacy inspections for expired/obsolete medication. Also, ensure that your pharmacy area is clean and free of any dust.
• Evaluating and monitoring drug regimens for appropriateness.
• Interpreting physicians orders and screening them for various types of interactions.
• Entering orders into the pharmacy computer system, and proper dispensing of medications. Demonstrating skill and competency in patient assessment
• Provide education to any clinical areas when requested.
• All activities will be supervised by a licensed pharmacist.
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
