About The Position

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics aims to foster a healthy community by equipping New Yorkers with the knowledge and resources for informed health decisions. They provide tuberculosis treatment, immunization, and sexual health services irrespective of financial status or immigration background. The Bureau envisions delivering care that is timely, accessible, high-quality, equitable, and respectful, ultimately enhancing patient lives and contributing to a healthier community. The Public Health Advisor, L2, will operate within one of the Bureau's Quickie Labs, reporting to the Express Clinic Supervisor.

Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences.
• Six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program, performing one or more of the following: interviewing, conducting community investigations, assessing health risks, making referrals, or collecting and analyzing epidemiological data.
• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described above.
• Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
• Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of full-time experience.
• All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences or six months of experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program.
• To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements, at least one year of experience as a Public Health Adviser, Assignment Level I, or at least one additional year of experience as described in Qualification Requirement "2" above.
• Annual health assessment is required for Public Health Advisers.

Nice To Haves

• Satisfactory completion of training in phlebotomy or other necessary procedures may be required for certain assignments.
• Certification in HIV counseling may be required for certain assignments.

Responsibilities

• Manage collection rooms, ensuring surface areas are disinfected after each collection.
• Perform HIV rapid INSTI tests.
• Provide HIV test results.
• Prepare specimen collection kits for patients.
• Deliver specimens to the Quickie Lab.
• Answer patient questions and inquiries.
• Review patients' reasons for visit.
• Conduct confidential advising for patients diagnosed with STI, HIV, or Covid, referring them for appropriate follow-ups.
• Enter data into the EMR/EPIC, including posting patient results and other relevant information.
• Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with staff and management to achieve employee and client needs and objectives.
