About The Position

The PET/CT Technologist operates computed tomography (CT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner to produce imaging of patient's body for diagnostic purposes including invasive and non-invasive procedures, as directed by Radiologist. Enforces safety procedures while performing PET/CT services. Performs patient care duties associated with PET/CT procedures within scope of their licensure. Assists the Site Manager and/or Lead Technologist and Lead Receptionist, if applicable, with other duties as required. This is a per diem position you can expect to work various days of the week at various times.

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion of radiologic technical training from an AMA approved institution.
  • Graduate of an accredited 2 or 4 year Nuclear Medicine Program.
  • Must hold an active CNMT or ARRT(N) license and current state permit to practice in Nuclear Medicine where applicable.
  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technology (RT)
  • Current California Radiologic Technology (CRT)
  • Registered in Nuclear Medicine by ARRT and/or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Current CPR/BLS Certificate (Healthcare Provider)
  • Advanced Venipuncture Techniques for Contrast Media Administration
  • Working knowledge of PET/CT equipment, protocols, cross-sectional anatomy, sterile procedures, and medical terminology.
  • General knowledge of first aid techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions (written, oral, diagram, or schedule form).

Nice To Haves

  • ARRT Advanced CT certification (CT) — preferred
  • Current Advanced CT certification (CT) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and performs PET/CT imaging, operating equipment according to the laws and regulations governing the use of the equipment.
  • Ensures that information essential to daily operations is passed between the technologists, receptionists, radiologist on duty, and Lead/Managers.
  • Assists the Site Manager and/or Lead Technologist in the training and orientation of new employees, and ongoing training as required.
  • Assists Site Manager and/or Lead Technologist in the preparation of staff evaluations by providing input, if applicable.
  • Assists Site Manager and/or Lead Technologist with the screening of resumes for prospective employees; conducts phone and personal interviews and assists with the selection of a final candidate.
  • Acts as liaison with referring physician offices through personal interaction with staff and physicians.
  • Performs equipment quality assurance checks/stats/reports, troubleshoots equipment problems, arranges repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinates patient flow to maximize productivity, while maintaining a high level of patient care.
  • Responds to minor patient concerns and ensures patient satisfaction; refers significant concerns to the Site Manager and/or Lead Technologist.
  • Assists the Lead Technologist in training for hardware and software upgrades.
  • Assists in maintaining adequate supplies and ensures appropriate cost controls.
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate policies and procedure manuals; alerts management to updates and monitors staff adherence.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment and work area, and ensures that staff maintains standards.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and radiopharmaceuticals according to site-specific protocols and under the direction of the Radiologist.
  • Adjusts and operates PET/CT equipment to scan designated anatomical area of patient.
  • Assists with injections and ensures patient safety by following all protocols regarding the use of the pressure injector.
  • Monitors patient safety and comfort.
  • Interviews patient, explains procedures, prepares patient for exam, screens patient for contraindications, and transfers patient to exam area.
  • Assists patient onto examination table and adjusts positioning devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by Physician.
  • Draws up contrast materials and prepares sterile trays.
  • Coordinates delivery of calibrated doses for scheduled patients.
  • Checks and reviews prior films/studies/history.
  • Processes films/images including 3-D images.
  • Operates all relevant equipment and computer applications including EHR, CR, and PACS.
  • Confers with Radiologist regarding symptoms/findings and protocols.
  • Demonstrates age-related concerns in radiographing neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
