About The Position

The PET/CT Technologist performs all PET/CT, nuclear medicine, and diagnostic CT procedures with minimal supervision on patients as directed by the physician or radiologist. This role involves administering radiopharmaceuticals, mapping them using a PET/CT scanner, performing diagnostic CT exams with contrast, and screening patients for contrast safety. The technologist follows ALARA principles, manages equipment maintenance and quality assurance, and ensures compliance with regulatory and safety standards. They collaborate with physicians and staff to improve diagnostic imaging and patient care, maintaining a supportive environment for patients of all ages. The role requires explaining procedures, maintaining communication during exams, assessing patient needs, observing reactions, and reinforcing patient education. Accurate documentation of patient records is essential. The technologist is expected to work assigned shifts and perform duties as assigned by leadership, with a maximum of 12 patients per technologist and the ability to access patient ports.

Requirements

Ability to produce quality imaging with little supervision
Maintains registration in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Meets all continuing education standards as they apply to registry eligibility
Computer experience with EMR knowledge
Excellent work ethic, including integrity, positive attitude, productive, organized, treats leadership with respect, excellent attendance, continuously learning and willing to ask for help
Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a detail oriented, fast-paced setting
ARRT certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology and Computed Tomography
Arizona Licenses in Nuclear Medicine and Computed Tomography
Valid CPR certification

Responsibilities

Administer radiopharmaceuticals agents intravenously.
Map radiopharmaceuticals agents using a PET/CT scanner to produce computer-generated images.
Perform diagnostic CT exams with the administration of intravenous contrast dye.
Screen patients to ensure administering contrast will not be harmful.
Follows exam protocols designed for administration of exams following ALARA principles.
Informs the Physicist of potential and actual problems concerning equipment.
Responsible for scheduling the evaluation, maintenance, and repair for all assigned equipment.
Responsible for equipment quality assurance, down time, and incident report logs.
Investigates and reports non-conformance to established treatment standards to appropriate departmental personnel.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.
Collaborates with physicians and other departmental personnel to plan and implement corrective action(s) to improve the diagnostic imaging and standards.
Maintains an atmosphere of caring, concern and support for patients ranging from pediatrics, geriatrics, visitors, medical staff, and co-workers consistently.
Provides safety and patient care through the consistent practice of Departmental Procedures for imaging administration.
Recognize deviation from prescribed imaging delivery and reports all deviations to the Chief of Radiation, Physicist, and Radiation Oncology Administrator.
Assures the quality of treatment delivery through the complete and accurate documentation of patient records.
Explain procedure to patients, means of communication during exams and procedure to follow if an emergency arises during the exam.
Maintains visual and audible communication with the patient during exam.
Responds effectively to patient concerns.
Assess patient physical and emotional needs.
Observes patients for expected and unexpected reactions to the exams and communicates this to appropriate staff members.
Reinforces patient education, side effect management information and indicates non-compliance to medical/nursing staff.
Maintains a safe, orderly patient care/treatment room.
Work shifts as assigned.
Performs all duties as assigned by Lead Technologist/Leadership.
Must be able to access patient ports.
