About The Position

Personal Financial Counselors provide personal financial counseling services at military installations to service members and their families. Services span financial education and counseling, including one-on-one counseling, consultations with commanders or other providers and staff, briefings and educational presentations, and referrals to resources outside counseling sessions. Counselors work closely with installation and military branch Points of Contact to ensure the program stays within scope and meets installation needs. The role includes providing counseling and financial management services to adults, children, and youth; assisting service members and families with individualized financial needs and extended-absence financial plans; developing and sharing financial materials; and coordinating and delivering classes and workshops throughout the military lifecycle. Counselors may also provide age-appropriate classes for children and teens and use secure virtual communication as an adjunct when in-person counseling is not possible. Counselors manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to Department of War protocol, consult with leadership, participate in individual and group supervision, share installation trends and issues, and take part in training, quality-improvement committees, and other contract activities. Other duties may be assigned. Employment is contingent on a successful background check and may require credentialing, security, drug screening, or other customer, contract, or legal requirements.
