Personal Financial Counselors provide personal financial counseling services at assigned military installations, serving military service members and their families. The role covers financial education and counseling through one-on-one sessions, consultations with commanders or other providers and staff, briefings, educational presentations, and referrals to resources outside counseling sessions. The counselor works closely with installation and military branch points of contact to ensure the program stays within scope and meets installation needs. Counselors provide individualized financial counseling and management services to adults, children, and youth of service members; help service members develop extended-absence financial plans; and develop and distribute informational financial materials. They coordinate, publicize, and deliver classes and workshops on financial management topics across the military lifecycle, including arrival at a first duty station, pre- and post-deployment, and personal and career events. They also respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars for youth and teens. The role includes using virtual counseling and other secure communications, such as chat, video-based communications, and customer-sponsored secure video teleconferencing, as an adjunct to in-person counseling when participants cannot attend face to face. Counselors manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to Department of War protocol and staff cases with leadership. They communicate with leadership, participate in individual and group supervision, share installation trends and issues, and take part in training, quality-improvement committees, and other assigned contract activities. Other duties may be assigned.
