Personal Financial Counselors provide personal financial counseling and management services at assigned military installations to service members and their families, including adults, children, and youth. Services include individualized and one-on-one counseling, consultation with commanders or other providers and staff, briefings and presentations, financial education, and referrals outside counseling sessions. Counselors work closely with installation and military-branch Points of Contact to ensure the program stays within scope and meets installation needs. The role includes helping service members establish financial plans for extended absences; creating and distributing informational financial materials; and coordinating, publicizing, and teaching personal financial management classes and workshops covering topics throughout the military lifecycle. Counselors also respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars for youths and teens. They use virtual counseling and other secure communication methods as an adjunct to in-person counseling when participants cannot attend in person. Counselors handle duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations in accordance with Department of War protocol and staff cases with leadership. They communicate with leadership, participate in individual and group supervision, share installation trends and issues, and take part in in-services, training, quality-improvement committees, and other contract activities as assigned or appropriate. Other duties may be assigned.
