Personal Financial Counselors provide personal financial counseling services at military installations, serving military service members and their families. The role delivers the full breadth of personal financial counseling, including financial education and individualized counseling, consultations with commanders or other providers and staff, briefings and educational presentations, and referrals to resources outside counseling sessions. Counselors work closely with installation and military-branch Points of Contact to ensure the program stays within scope and meets installation needs. Counselors may provide services to adults, children, and youth of service members; help service members and families with individualized financial counseling and assistance; and assist service members in creating financial plans for extended absences. They develop and distribute informational financial materials and coordinate, publicize, and deliver financial management classes and workshops across the military lifecycle. They also respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars for youths and teens as part of on-base education. The position may use virtual counseling and other communication methods, including secure chat and customer-sponsored video communications, as an adjunct to in-person counseling when participants cannot attend in person. Counselors manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations under Department of War protocol and staff cases with leadership. They communicate with leadership, participate in individual and group supervision, share information about installation trends and issues, and participate in training, quality-improvement committees, and other contract activities. Other duties may be assigned.
