About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) is a primary contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make necessary operating decisions. The PIC generally supervises store employees while in charge, often at night, and also performs Cashier-Checker duties. The role may require working in various store departments. The position includes customer service, store supervision, cashiering, basic office functions, and helping maintain a clean and safe store. Duties and skills may vary by store, and employees must follow company, division, and store policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Knowledge of all positions within the store.
Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service in accordance with employer procedures and company policy.
Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents appropriately.
Supervise store personnel when the Store Manager and Assistant Managers are absent.
Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
Monitor the sales floor for service and product replenishment.
Replace stock in displays surrounding the checkout area.
Help maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Assist cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
Operate an electronically scanning cash register to total customer purchases.
Receive customer payments and count back correct change.
Bag groceries and lift bags into grocery carts; offer carry-out assistance and perform it if a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable.
May complete the office close-of-day function.
May count out-of-stock products.
May count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
Perform other duties as assigned.
