About The Position

SAFEbuilt is seeking a Permit Technician to join its team in Muskegon, Michigan. The role provides customer service for building department needs and supports permits throughout the permitting process, from application acceptance and plan review through inspections and permit closure. The technician maintains organized permit-related records and materials and works with plans examiners and inspectors to develop and maintain consistent processes.

Requirements

At least 2 years of administrative or customer service experience.
Ability to interact positively with staff, the public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele.
Good time management, organization, telephone, attention-to-detail, and people skills.
Ability to multitask and manage frequent interruptions.
Ability to perform varied duties requiring independent judgment and technical knowledge.
Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
Permitting software experience.

Nice To Haves

Building and/or construction knowledge or background.
Permitting and/or municipal experience.
ICC Permit Technician Certification.

Responsibilities

Interface with customers to address building department-related needs.
Issue and/or track permits through application acceptance, plan review, inspections, and permit closure.
Establish and maintain organized files and records, including letters, reference manuals, field inspection reports, permit files, blueprints, drawings, and other materials.
Work with plans examiners and inspectors across the company to develop and ensure consistent processes.
